Week of August 12-16

This week:
Sight Words:  I, see
Theme: Sharing
Story Element: characters
Comprehension Strategy:  Making Connections
Math:  Numbers to 5
Writing:
Phonics: A-E

Important August Dates:
August 14:  Minimum Day
August 20:  Dine Out at Panda Express
August 26-30:  Book Fair
August 29:  Ice Cream Social

First Week:
We had a great first week together!  The students did a great job and are beginning to learn routines.  I will continue to provide support in the mornings helping students learn how to unpack their backpacks as well remain consistent with routines I have set in place throughout the day.  It won't be long before they begin to be more and more independent.  You can support this at home by giving your child 1-2 step directions and expecting them to follow through with them independently.  For example, ask them to put their shoes in their closet and then brush their teeth.  I am really enjoying getting to know each of them and I can tell it is a great group this year!
Scholastic Book Orders:
Book orders can easily be place online by clicking on the Scholastic tab here on the blog.
Homework:
Please click on the Homework tab to see this week's homework

Paperwork:
If you have not yet returned your child's e-card, Acceptable Use Policy Form, or other important papers that came in your kiddos orientation packet, please do so ASAP.  These are required.  The Acceptable Use Policy Form allows your child to use the classroom laptops and this will be a regular routine for us.  I can not let them use the computers without this signed form.

Sight Words:
Just to clarify, a red Sight Word book was in your child's orientation packet.  Please begin practicing List 1.  You will notice there is a front and back side to each list.  Once your child can successfully read both sides of the list 1, place the red book in your child's Red Folder and I will test them on List 1.  I do not test the words in order from top to bottom to prevent memorization of lists so it would be helpful if you skipped around on the list to ensure your child KNOWS the words.  There is no time frame on this.  Please practice daily as needed.  The students will be at different levels here.  I'm looking to see progress throughout the year.  Please feel free to ask me any questions if you are not sure.

Welcome

Hello everyone!  I am looking forward to a fantastic year!  I'm glad you found our classroom website!  Feel free to browse the tabs and see what new information you find.  There's no need to browse previous posts because those don't pertain to this year's class. I know we are going to have a great first week together!  Don't forget to sign up for Bloomz!

Last Week

Important Dates:

June 6: Last Day or school/minimum day/Kindergarten Celebration

Kindergarten Field Day:
This will begin right away on the last day of school.  We need about 5 board approved parent volunteers for this event.  We will have stations set up and all kinder students will rotate through the centers.  We will finish up field day with a kindergarten picnic on the playground. .  Please send in your item by this Tuesday or Wednesday.  Thanks for your support!

Kindergarten Celebration:
I would love for every student to have at least one adult present for the kindergarten celebration.  YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE BOARD APPROVED TO ATTEND!  Everyone is welcome to come and it can be quite crowded.  It is a special event that you won't want to miss.  This will begin at 10 am in the classroom on June 6.  I will unlock the gate by our classroom door.

Report Cards:
Report cards will come home on the final day of kindergarten.

Summer:
I can not stress how important it is for your child to continue reading daily over the summer.  If they do not, they will regress and could possibly begin 1st grade reading below grade level.  Be sure they are reading their book boxes at home and check the library for leveled readers.
