Assessments

As Spring Break approaches, I will be assessing students.  Here are some of the things I will be assessing:
Letter ID
Letter Sounds
Number Writing
Kindergarten Sight Words
Reading Levels

It is important that your child know all of his/her letters, sounds and as many sight words as possible.  I will be sending home a "report" that shares your child's assessments with you before spring break.

Spring Celebration

We will be celebrating Spring on March 4.  We will be decorating Peep houses.  We will need to gather some materials to make our Peep Houses.  I will need a couple of parents to help pre build the peep houses at home or in the classroom.  You will need a hot glue gun.  Its not difficult and I will show you how.  There will be a sign-up sheet on the classroom door if you are able to help with donations.  As usual, feel free to text me and I can sign you up for something if you aren't able to make it over to the door.  Thank you so much for helping me supply things for the celebrations.

3 Piggy Opera Play

We will have our play on March 11.  It will be at 11 am in the cafeteria.  This is a minimum day so all students may go home following the play.  I am in need of a few more items for costumes.  Maybe you have it to donate?  Here's what I need:
4 flannel shirts (size 6-8)
2 small aprons
Thank you in advance for helping me make this play a success!

Valentine Party:
We will have a Valentine party this Friday.  If you are able to help with centers that day, please send me a reminder text.
Also, there are a few items we need for that day.  I will put a sign-up on the door or you can text me and I'll sign you up.
We will be having a Valentine exchange that day.  If you would like to send some valentines for you child to pass out, PLEASE send one for every student.  We have 24 students in class.  I also ask that you do not put names on your child's valentines.  It is very difficult to pass out specific valentines to specific students when there are 24 students.  Just have your child sign their name showing it is from them.  Thanks for your support here.  It makes things go MUCH smoother.

January 25-30

Hi everyone!  For those of you who may not know, one of our student's father was shot 7 times in the December 2 terrorist attack.  We are so grateful he is alive and he is working hard to fully recover.  Please keep the Reid family in your thoughts and prayers and if you have the ability to provide any amount of financial support, it would be appreciated unmeasurably. He has a long road ahead of him and a fund has been set up to help take any financial stress and burden off of him and his wife so that all their focus can be on his full recovery.  I also ask that you take caution if you choose to talk to your kiddos about this.  They are young and unaware of what they say many times.  This family is working on healing from a tragedy of catastrophic size unimaginable to most of us.  I want our student to be comfortable and feel safe in our classroom and not have to be faced with any questions or comments.  Thanks for your understanding.

I am providing the link here to his amazing story of survival where you can leave an encouraging comment for him or a donation if you feel led.

Writing
We have been working hard on learning how to write personal narrative stories in class.  You should start to see your child writing a beginning sentence with 3 supporting details.  Please encourage this on the share homework.  With the 2nd semester under way, you will start to see some huge growths academically from your child.  It is exciting!
