Sight Words
So far, we have learned the following sight words:
I
like
the
and

It is important that your student is able to read these words.  Please use the flashcards to review both these words and the letter names and sounds.  You can be creative and play games with the sight words and letters.  Please reach out to me if you need some ideas as to how to help your student learn these.

Parent/Teacher Google Meet
I will be hosting a short google meet at 11:00 on Friday of this week to go over our schedule change that will begin next week.  I will explain small group meet up times as well as what other students will work on during that 11:30-12:30 block of time.

Google Classroom
I will now move all the week's assignments into a past topic so we can build this week's daily assignments.  If your student is absent one day and you need to find the assignments, you may need to look back into the past week in order to find the assignment.

Dress up Day
Wednesday September 30th is character dress up day.  Come to google meet dressed as your favorite cartoon character.

Additional Learning Opportunities
I will be adding a weekly learning mat to our google classroom.  This is for families who are looking for additional learning opportunities above and beyond the assigned work.

Class Work
Work assigned in Google classroom must be completed and submitted.  For now, be sure your students is submitting google slide assignments.  We will move onto submitting pictures of other pieces of work in the near future.

**I know some of you are working and the students may need some support from you.  I don't ever want Kindergarten to be an extra stress of yours or the students.  I can be flexible with turn in times and days. Most importantly, I want the students to learn. So if you need to structure some time later in the day or even on the weekend, I'm more than willing to support you.

Here are a few of my thoughts on your student's independent work time:
We want to develop the best habits we can.  We will transfer to a full classroom setting at some point.  If your student develops the habit of not completing work when they are asked, we run the risk of a difficult home to classroom transition.  It is in the best interest of the students to know that they have work to complete at that time and they are welcome to have some play time when they finish.
Extended Day
We will begin our extended day on October 5.  Beginning Monday, October 5, we will break for lunch from 11-11:30 and return to the google meet at 11:30 to 12:30 to finish class.  This part of our day will begin with a short meet up whole group.  Students will then hang up to complete their afternoon centers while I work with small groups in our google meet.  Your child will be meeting with me and their small group for 15 minutes, twice a week.  Friday's will be set aside for assessment time.  I will notify you and your student of your small group time with me.  This is an adjustment I know we can get used to as we transition into our full kindergarten distance learning program.  Thank you for your support!

Grab and Go Bags
I will be handing out Grab and Go bags on Monday September 28th from 11:30-12:30 at Cram.  If you are unable to make this time, you will find your student's bag in the office.  Please swing by sometime during the week to grab that.

Google Classroom
You will see some changes in set up and organization in our Google Classroom in regards to daily assignments.  I will now be listing our assignments by daily topics.  If your child is absent, they can still complete the daily assignments by logging into google classroom.  Students have 5 days to complete the google classroom work if they are absent.

Video Tutorials
I will be adding some video tutorials to our google classroom 'Resource' tab.  This will allow your student to share some of their work with me via photos and video.

Additional Learning Opportunities
I am also going to provide some ideas for students who are looking for additional learning opportunities above and beyond what the district is requiring.  Keep in mind, these are optional and should only be worked on when the required assignments have been completed.

Week of August 17-21

Hello everyone! Overall, I was very pleased with our first few days of Distance Learning.  Thank you for taking the time to fill out my google survey!  Most everyone's concerns were somewhat the same regarding Distance Learning.  Many are concerned about screen time and I agree with you.  To help ease this, my plan is to teach/train the students to confidently and independently complete repetitive centers.  This will allow me to teach a math lesson to them, then ask them to complete 3-4 centers independently.  I will repeat the process for English/Language Arts.  I will teach the lesson, then have the kiddos complete 3-4 centers.  We will begin with English/Language Arts centers on Monday.  My centers will be very similar and repetitive to ensure that the kiddos are able to do them somewhat independently without too much supervision from you.  I want to build independent learners that are able to transition into a classroom setting successfully at some point.  With this in mind, many of the daily materials we use will be the same.  This will help build independence as well.

Book Boxes:
Our At Home Project is to decorate a shoebox size box to house all your child's sight word books.  It would be great if your kiddo could bring their decorated box on Monday after PE Enrichment, but I have no problem if they need more time.  It should be a fun and enjoyable project that sparks some creativity.

Google Classroom Assignments:
I'm going to be showing the kiddos how to complete an assignment in our google classroom. This type of assignment will become a daily center job.
